I was getting serving dishes out for Laura's party and came across a small bowl I haven't used in a long time. It surprises me how much happiness I got out of using that beautiful piece for the party, as well as for dinner tonight. I wish I had some kind of touching story about how the bowl belonged to my great grandma who handed it over to me on her death bed...but, in truth, I bought it at an antique store, just because I loved the delicate flowers around the rim.
It may not have come into the house as a treasured family heirloom, but maybe if I quit forgetting it exists and actually use it with my own family it will earn heirloom status by the time I go to that big kitchen in the sky.
Can it become a family heirloom now? (Without you going to the sky kitchen.) The only serving platter I have is my pizza plate, so every time I bring in cake or slab pie or cookies to the lab it's on a crazy pizza plate.
