After weeks of planning to make this dish I finally cooked up the zucchini ricotta galette from Smitten Kitchen. As I was doing all the prep, I looked at my pastry blender and thought how flimsy it seemed. Sure enough - just as soon as I realized I'd need to upgrade that cheapo gadget, it flew apart as I was using it to blend in the butter and cold flour. Quite the show! After getting down on my knees to find the bolt that had (very poorly) held the contraption together, I put it back together, for the time being. Even so, that pastry blender is living on borrowed time til I can get to Great News and buy a new one!
I think I've been watching too many chef shows 'cause I had this burning need to put all my ingredients in little ramekins - or prep bowls. There was something quite satisfying about measuring out the cheeses, olive oil mixture, and egg yolk, putting everything in tiny bowls, and then lining those bowls up on the stove top til time to be mixed in.
My galette didn't turn out exactly like the one in the picture...but I don't care because it tasted absolutely yummy!!! The crust was surprisingly flaky and very, very tasty. I ate over half of my creation, loving every bite.
Whoa! Your's looks infinitely better than mine I think! Yum yum yum! Isn't the crust just to die for?
ReplyDeleteYou still haven't sent me my pastry blender so it's upstairs in my room if you want to borrow it for the time being. ;)
